System Evaluation and Assessment (SEA) Sub-Project

This picture shows a group of people in a work discussion.

The System Evaluation and Assessment (SEA) element supports the concept development efforts within the System Level Integrated Concepts (SLIC) Sub-project and the modeling and simulation efforts within the Virtual Airspace Simulation Technologies (VAST) Sub-project through the development and application of methodologies, operational scenarios, and metrics for the project. Specifically, the first two years of this effort worked toward the development and refinement of scenarios and metrics for the evaluation of the proposed operational concepts received from the SLIC element. SEA produced a common set of scenarios that will represent "storyboards" of activities during a typical air traffic management process from the perspective of the various users of the system (air traffic controllers, pilots, and airline operation centers). Similarly, there is a common set of metrics for the evaluation of the concepts intended to provide baseline assessment information for operational concept comparisons. SEA will continue to refine the methodologies, scenarios, and metrics for the Project. In the remaining years, SEA will support the concept blending efforts and continue its assessments, including the synthesized concepts.
